Set on the rugged East Coast of the North Island, Gisborne region and the city of Gisborne are the first to see the light of the new day. On the 31st of December 1999 there were huge crowds in the region to see the first sun of the new century.

Gisborne and the smaller towns of Opotiki, Wairoa, Ruatoria and more make up this region. Also taking in beautiful spots such as Lake Waikaremoana and East Cape.

The area is remote and full of history as this is the area that Captain James Cook first made landfall and where the first Polynesian canoes landed.
