Heading down on the east coast of the South Island you reach the Waitaki region. A small area full of untouched beauty.
Three main areas make up this region. The town of Oamaru and the smaller settlements of Kurow and Omarama, each providing their own attractions.
No visit to this region is complete without a visit to the Moeraki Boulders. These boulders are spherical stones so perfectly formed and in certain light they take on a mystical glow.
Another must do is a visit to the colony of little blue penguins in Oamaru. These friendly chaps will often come close to shore and there is viewing platforms available to view them in their habitat.
Further inland towards the mountains relax in the Omarama hot tubs and soak up the stunning scenery.
The locals welcome you to this area and hope you enjoy your stay in a carefree and laid back environment.
