Known as the "Art Deco" area of New Zealand the Hawkes Bay provides the tourist with warm sunny weather and many attractions.
The main populated areas are Napier and Hastings. Smaller towns such as Havelock North and Waipukurau make up this area.
When one thinks of Hawkes Bay, vineyards immediately spring to mind. Acres and acres of vines ripen in the abundant sunshine in the area. Visiting Hawkes Bay is not complete without a winery tour.
The city of Napier was rocked by a large earthquake in 1931 resulting in the loss of many art deco buildings. Luckily many are still standing today showing the Art Deco movement in the Bay.
Also home to many stunning beaches which in summer provide numerous boating activities the Hawkes Bay area will delight any one wanting to spend time in this relaxed and friendly area.
