Sitting out on the west coast of the North Island is the Taranaki region. It is dominated and looked over by Mount Taranaki. Legend has it that Mount Taranaki once was in the same area as the Central Plateau mountains and after a battle with Mount Tongariro, Taranaki left the area and stands where it is today. The pathway that it cut on its trip is now according to legend the Wanganui River.
New Plymouth is the major town in the area. Smaller towns such as Stratford, Waitara, Inglewood and more make up the Taranaki area.
Skiing in winter is one of the major outdoor attractions as well as surfing and boating activities along its coast line.
Locals in the area extend a warm welcome to visitors and hope you enjoy their relaxed lifestyle of mountain and the sea.
