We offer a lifetime of experience in the timber industry.
The proprietor started in the building trade in 1980, finishing an apprenticeship and taking over from his retiring boss. After five years in a small town, a shift to the joinery industry saw first a management position in a busy custom joinery shop with a staff of seventeen.
Then a promotion saw ten years as general manager of Renall Doors, undertaking a complete makeover of that business to becoming the software driven CNC controlled production facility it is today.
A need for challenge saw three years as a dry mill processing manger, with a staff of twenty, kiln drying and machining 100m3 of timber daily.
A return to roots has seen our team building since 2005 (must be sawdust between the ears), tackling every aspect of building work in the private sector. Plans and specifications, permits, groundwork, contract co-ordination, sub-trades (of which we pride ourselves in using only the best) to completion of grounds where necessary.
Rex hails from time in the joinery side of the equation with time spent in door manufacture, kitchen manufacturing, Mitre 10 hardware, and the Australian building scene.
Mason came to us four years ago with two years experience in the trade. We apprenticed Him and He completed his apprenticeship in 2010 with flying colours.
We currently have two apprentices, Nick & Cam, trying to do our bit for the industry, and with a firm belief in teaching old fashion methods.

Our projects and philosophy :
Whilst we prefer new mid to upper range housing, we are among the few builders who have learnt the traditional methods and are therefore very capable in extensions, alterations and additions where seamless transition from old to new is necessary.
Our broader philosophies include apprenticeship schemes, affiliation with Certified Builders, and community involvements.
We look forward to working with you, and assure integrity at all times.
TESTIMONIAL :
Reference for Vic Jacobson
To whom it may concern
This is an unreserved vote of confidence for Vic Jacobson and his team of builders. But first, let me tell you a story.
At the start of our building project on land previously purchased in the Wairarapa, we had plans from an architect we had not met and the name of a builder we had not met through a designer/project manager we had employed to get the project to building consent stage. Over this protracted process, the
designer/project manager and architect had fallen out so we sacked them both, picked up the pieces, finally got our building consent and called the builder.
Vic met us in Wellington and came straight to the point, telling us he was experienced, honest, charged fairly, knew the local Wairarapa market and had great relationships with suppliers.
We shook on it, spread the plans out, set some cost estimates and before we knew it the frustrations in getting the project to this point eased as the earthmovers arrived and started leveling the ground.
What we did not realize then was the extent to which we would need to make changes to the plans to make the building work. Luckily, we were in good hands as Vic's 30 years experience, not just in building of plans but also in designing, came to the fore and problems were presented with solutions.
Essentially, we could not have achieved the fantastic house we now have without Vic's input which went well beyond the basic construction and project management. He offered ideas and solutions from day one, from setting the position for the house (cut into the hillside) to providing good advice (which we
took) on an option for an internet/telephone system.
Given our unique situation (no architect) this project had the propensity for expensive failure.
Thankfully, Vic proved himself to be an innovative thinker who provided recommendations well beyond
what the architect had specified and this saved the day. We would have no hesitation in recommending Vic for any construction project, even one that required design and build elements, in fact the bigger the challenge the better.
Vic Jacobson built our unique house to a very high standard. He was meticulous at every stage of the building. Vic modified and refined the design of the house and was responsible for the drawings, specifications and permits. He accomodated us by including the eco-friendly aspects we requested - solar heating panels and an Eco-Boiler for the underfloor heating. He chose proficient and reliable sub-contractors.
